Lost in Translation

There can be some hilarious results when using machine translation – no doubt, there are a few strange or mysterious examples on this website!

Pop singer Ariana Grande’s wanted “7 Rings” tattooed in Japanese on her palm. Ultimately, it read something like, “barbecue grill finger.” That’s one way to lose your appetite!

More seriously, the British Medical Journal, has reported that commonly-used translation tools, including Google Translate, are only 57% accurate when translating medical expressions into another language.

However, getting a message across to people from different continents, countries and cultures can be a worthwhile challenge.
